"I was just dreaming about white birds." My dear brother, Jonathon, brightly greeted me with these words, sharing comfort and love, not sadness, as I entered his room for our last visit together. He so bravely faced ALS, his faith in God strong and steady. When asked how he bore such suffering for so long with such quiet dignity, he simply said, "by God's grace." As was his sweet nature, he lovingly gifted each of his "dear ones" with one last shared joyous embrace in this life.

Night Owl
The young Mockingbird sang and chirped, his solo voice bright against the velvet hush of deepest night. A master minstrel of nature performing nocturnal bird song medleys. Hmmm, a mocking bird night owl.

Glimmer of hope
There is yet hope, life abounds. Look around, there is so much to see. Life and beauty are everywhere, try to see the awesome glimmer through the haze of days and the darkness of nights.

Living each day embraced by beauty and peace
How to hope to fully experience a beautiful day, so much joy and sweetness. Feeling the air envelope me, and sun, moon, clouds, wind, jewels set with the songs of wild creatures. Trying to hold on to this perfect moment, but then the moment has slipped by and life streams onward to the sea, entrapped in the current of time. A tiny bite of beauty, so little time, moving so quickly, rarely time for more than a tiny bite. Even fleeting glimpses of joy nourish the soul. Humans have limitations of time and strength; moments of pure appreciation and transcendence are fleeting, achingly precious and wistful.
I wish it would rain. Rain's beauty is easy to feel, bringing comfort, permission to slow down, and be alive. Listen to the rain: mindful of the life it brings, and thankful if blessed with warm and safe shelter. Sweet gentle rain brings peace.

Sunshine
Sunshine illuminates. Sunshine warms. Sunshine shimmers, dappling beauty bestows sparkling water jewels. Sunshine dances within the silver maple trees - look - notice - the flawless, perfect beauty of the breathtaking ballet of the sun, trees, leaves, wind, birds, winged insects; it is life, a glimpse of divinity, fleeting, only a reflection of divine perfection, but this gift of momentary breathtaking beauty inspires hope and nurtures life. Sunshine rules by divine right, brought into being by God to provide warmth and light to the cradle of life on earth, an elemental force respected by the living - for any lack of proper, humble submission to Sunshine, absolute ruler of light, warmth, and essential element of life - brings death.
Sunshine burns, kills, scorches; searing, unrelenting heat calls forth dread, and fear, hunger, and suffering come to visit. In the shadows there lurks an element of random fate which sometimes strikes down souls, shattering them, breaking them. For those souls unfortunate enough to have been forced to face their breaking point, Sadness is a heavy burden laid upon them which they did not choose and had not sought. Fundamentally, each living soul chooses which inspiration to seek: hope and beauty, from which love and joy naturally flow; or, fear and suffering, from which flow sadness and horror. Sunshine or Shadows.

Navel contemplation
So, what light chit-chat should I share with the void today?
A question I struggle with:
Considering the unique mix of horror and beauty that comprises the fabric of your existence as a living being, do you think that you are living your life well, or are you disappointed with your performance as a human being?

Spreading sunshine
I haven't posted for quite awhile. Ever elusive, my Motivation informed me the "it needed more space for awhile", packed it's bags, hopped a plane to El Somewhere-else and left me to contemplate how I had fallen short in my role as a member of the human race; to intuit how I might improve my performance as a human soul in order to regain membership-in-good-standing admission to the rabble level of humanity.
The Gulf, while admittedly not completely destroyed, is not ok, and the impact of a pollution event of such great magnitude will be felt for the foreseeable future. Much diligence will be required to maintain the appearance of a pristine, clean, safe, unspoiled natural ecosystem, the image required for tourism brochures and advertisements - book your trip to the Gulf Coast today! - no really - please do, because there are many working people down here who aren't ever gonna see a dime of compensation from BP for the destruction of stability, the vaporization of any expectation of a baseline normal world (as in cradle of mankind), and the loss of faith that lives lived with honor, dignity, determination, hard work, and quiet endurance, fueled by dreams and plans for a happy future, can and do lead to the fulfillment of goals which enhance and enrich human lives. Just a reminder that environmental constants which bestow a reasonably predictable, stable, orderly, foundation of consistency, and make possible the gifts of hope, dreams for the future, belief in a purpose in life, also provide the basic universal framework through which to constructively channel the uncontrollably wild, chaotic, life force flowing through every human soul.
Our world's resilience and enduring life sustaining systems are disturbingly fragile and can be disrupted, even destroyed, not just by nuclear annihilation, world wars, or extreme natural disasters, but by the reckless, heedless, greedy plans/actions of powerful "human beings" driven by insatiable lust for more wealth and power and whose purposes are carried out and put into action by their work force of servant lackeys.
